Online Ecology Conferences
R has become an extremely powerful and flexible platform for making figures, tables, and reproducible reports. However, R can be intimidating for first time users, and there are so many resources online that it can be difficult to sort through without guidance. To fill that need, this course is intended for learners who have little or no experience with R but who are looking for an introduction to this tool.
By the end of this course, students will be able to import data into R, manipulate that data using tools from the popular tidyverse package, and make simple reports using R Markdown. The course is designed for students with good basic computing skills, but limited if any experience with programming.

12th Symposium for European Freshwater Sciences
Date: July 25th - 30th
Abstract Submission Deadline: March 15th
Conference Theme
SEFS12 will run as a Virtual Conference in July 2021 due to the uncertainty relating to COVID19 and the likely continuation of health risks and travel restrictions as well as restrictions relating to indoor gatherings. We deeply regret that we won’t be able to welcome you in person to Dublin as originally planned. There is no doubt that SEFS12 will be a different experience but with the platforms available and creative programme design and promotion, we plan to ‘re-imagine’ SEFS12 and deliver an exciting, welcoming and interactive conference.
We will deliver a typical programme with parallel sessions, special sessions and poster sessions, and also an industry exhibition. We will extend our famous Irish welcome and provide opportunities for network meetings and online social and cultural events. Ireland abounds in a wonderful diversity of freshwater habitats that are an integral part of the island’s rich and varied landscape. Field excursions have always been an important part of the SEFS programme and Virtual SEFS12 will host them in a unique way. We will give delegates an opportunity to join us on virtual fieldtrips to several interesting places, and unlike in-person trips there will be no restrictions on the numbers attending or the number of trips that you may join.

Evolution of Species Ranges
Date: March 8th - 10th
Conference Theme
Species re-distributions are already occurring in response to global climate change. Many species migrate to track critical environmental parameters such as their optimal temperature range. Migrations of populations to new areas come with challenges. Both evolutionary and ecological factors play a role in determining the success of the populations’ establishment in new areas.
What are the key evolutionary and ecological factors precluding or facilitating the establishment of species in new geographic areas?
What management actions could facilitate expansions, shifts and persistence of ranges, or prevent invasive species from expanding their ranges?
