Symposium on Neglected Groups in Wildlife Trade
Date: January 12th, 19th, 26th and February 2nd
It is evident that the phenomenon of global wildlife trade is much more complex and pervasive across the branches of the Tree of Life than previously acknowledged, as it encompasses species from almost all marine and terrestrial realms and habitats, including groups considered less charismatic such as fungi, sea cucumbers, orchids, snakes and tarantulas.
With this virtual symposium about neglected groups in wildlife trade we hope to shed a light on this overlooked part of the Tree of Life. Our goal is to discuss all forms of trade (legal or illegal, sustainable or unsustainable) under different points of view – from researchers to enforcement officers, consumers, policy makers and wildlife dealers from all over the world – and think in more effective approaches to curb unsustainable and illegal trade.
Herp Workers Meeting UK 2021
Date: February 6th - 7th
Registration Deadline: January 31st
Poster Submission: If you would like to exhibit a research poster (virtually) please contact HWM2021@arc-trust.org
Conference Theme
Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) and Amphibian and Reptile Groups of UK (ARG UK), are delighted to announce 2021’s Herpetofauna Workers Meeting will be held virtually for the first time on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February.
Running annually for over 30 years, this popular two-day event occupies the centre stage of the herpetological calendar. The meeting attracts a diverse audience representing: conservation organisations, ecological consultants, statutory bodies, land managers, academic institutions and students, and enthusiastic volunteers.
Once again, we offer a full and varied programme with twelve speakers and four workshops lined up this year, giving delegates the opportunity to find out about the latest in herpetofauna research, legislation and best practice and of course the return of our popular evening quiz! Although virtual this year we know our attendees value group discussion and networking with other delegates so extra areas will also be made available through the event platform.
Genomes of Animals & Plants Virtual Conference
Date: January 12th -14th
Conference Theme
Genomes of Animals and Plants (GAP) Virtual Conference is a Dovetail Genomics sponsored event that will help bring the genome assembly community together in these troubled times. Now, more than ever, efficient communication of exciting advances in plant and animal genomics is necessary.
The inaugural GAP2021 event will take place virtually on January 12-14, 2021 and will showcase de novo genome assembly projects from leading researchers in three main areas of study – conservation, evolution and agriculture. The emphasis will be on the application of high quality, chromosome-scale assemblies to downstream biological research.
In addition to exciting talks from our invited speakers, we will update attendees on the latest Dovetail advances in genome assembly technology and bioinformatics. Interactive Q&A sessions will enable scientific discussion between attendees and the speaker panels, small breakout discussions will facilitate smaller focused group conversations, and all attendees are encouraged to present their scientific research in the poster session.
International Association for Landscape Ecology North America Conference 2021
Date: April 12th - 16th
Abstract Submission Deadline: January 11th
Conference Theme
The Reno Host Committee of IALE – North America, in consultation with the Executive Committee, has decided to hold a virtual conference, given the likely time-frame for a universally available Covid-19 vaccine and continuing restrictions on the size of gatherings. We regret missing the opportunity to get together in Reno in 2021, but hope to make it back not too far in the future!
Society for Marine Mammalogy Australia and New Zealand Student Chapter 5th Biennial Conference
Date: January 12th - 14th
Abstract Submission/Registration
Conference Theme
This conference offers an opportunity for students from the Asia Pacific region to present their marine mammal research. While the majority of our members are from Australia and New Zealand, we would love more members and presenters from the rest of our region!
As expected this year's conference will look a little different. It will all be run virtually, but as we no longer have the constraints usually associated with venues and travel inter-state or overseas, we are hoping that this year the conference will be able to reach more people than ever. We encourage anyone in the wider Australasia area to join us and get involved. Remember it is 100% FREE!!! If you are a student (both undergraduate and postgraduate!) and you study, or are interested in, marine mammals we would love to have YOU involved. There are opportunities for posters, talks and speed talks, all of which are a great way to ease you into the world of academic speaking without the pressure of a larger conference. You can get feedback from your peers, and from our invited guests.
